The Terrebonne Parish School Board Adult Education Program offers the following services:
- Beginning Literacy/Non-Readers:
Beginning Literacy is designed to teach primary reading skills. Participants use a reading series designed to teach beginning reading skills together with a computer-based program.
- Adult Basic Education (ABE):
This program concentrates on individual student goals such as reading, vocabulary, language, and mathematics improvement. Participants work both individualized and/or computer-assisted assignments.
- Adult Secondary Education (ASE/GED):
This program prepares participants for the GED exam’s 5 separate testing areas: writing, social studies, science, literature, and math skills. Students work at their own pace on specific subject areas as needed.
- Family Literacy - Even Start:
The Even Start classes are designed to meet the needs of both parent and child by providing a special fun time to learn together in a childhood setting. This program is based on the philosophy that the parent is the child’s first and best teacher. This grant-funded program offers basic education for adults, early childhood education for young children, parenting/child activities for the family.
- English for Speakers of other Languages (ESOL):
The ESOL program assists students who have difficulty speaking, reading, writing, or understanding the English language. Listing, vocabulary development, conversation, reading and writing, consumer education, and community living are stressed.
- Pre-Employment/Work Maturity Skills:
This curriculum includes, but is not limited to, developing skills in resume writing, job interviewing, job applications, etc.
- Computer Skills:
Individuals are familiarized with the basic use of computers by working on various educational computer-assisted assignments.
